API 5L X56 (L390) is a high-strength steel grade with a yield strength of 390 MPa, suitable for high-pressure, long-distance, and challenging pipeline projects.
X56 provides high tensile strength, impact toughness, and corrosion resistance. Its strength allows for reduced pipe wall thickness, lowering project cost while ensuring safety. It performs reliably in low-temperature or harsh geographic environments.
Chemical composition follows a low-carbon microalloyed design with carbon ≤0.26% and microalloying elements Nb, V, and Ti. Strict impurity control ensures good weldability and cracking resistance.
X56 is supplied in controlled-rolled, normalized, TMCP, or occasionally quenched and tempered conditions. TMCP ensures fine grain structure and optimized performance.
Applications include international oil and gas pipelines, mountainous terrain projects, subsea pipelines, LNG transmission lines, and high-pressure crude oil pipelines.
