Chemical composition

The chemical composition of W18Cr4V steel mainly includes carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), vanadium (V), molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W) and other elements. Among them, the content of tungsten (W) is as high as 17.50% to 19.00%, which makes W18Cr4V steel has excellent wear resistance and high temperature performance. The contents of other elements are as follows:

Carbon (C) : 0.70%~0.80%

Silicon (Si) : 0.20%~0.40%

Manganese (Mn) : 0.10%~0.40%

Sulfur (S) : ≤0.030%

Phosphorus (P) : ≤0.030%

Chromium (Cr) : 3.80%~4.40%

 

Nickel (Ni) : Allowable residual content ≤0.30%

Copper (Cu) : Allowable residual content ≤0.25%

Vanadium (V) : 1.00%~1.40%

Molybdenum (Mo) : ≤0.30%

Scope of application

Cutting tools: W18Cr4V steel is widely used in the manufacture of various cutting tools, such as turning tools, planing knives, milling cutters, etc., especially suitable for processing soft or medium hardness materials.

Mold manufacturing: W18Cr4V steel is also commonly used to manufacture molds with high hardness, high wear resistance and high compressive strength requirements, such as heavy-duty punches, cold extrusion dies, blanking dies, etc.
