42CrMo steel plate

42CrMo steel belongs to alloy structural steel in terms of material classification. It has good mechanical properties and processing properties and is widely used. There are two main types of materials: plates and round rods. Its comprehensive performance is better than 40cr and has been recognized by the industry. 42CrMo steel is an ultra-high-strength steel with high strength and toughness, good hardenability, no obvious temper brittleness, high fatigue limit and multiple impact resistance after quenching and tempering, and good low-temperature impact toughness. 42CrMo steel is suitable for manufacturing large and medium-sized plastic molds that require certain strength and toughness.

The chemical composition of 42CrMo steel plate mainly includes: carbon (C) content between 0.38~0.45%, silicon (Si) content between 0.17~0.37%, manganese (Mn) content between 0.50~0.80%, sulfur (S) The allowable residual content of phosphorus (P) is also ≤0.035%, the chromium (Cr) content is between 0.90~1.20%, and the molybdenum (Mo) content is between 0.15~0.25%. In addition, the allowable residual contents of nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) are both ≤0.030%.

42CrMo steel mechanical properties: tensile strength σb (MPa): ≥1080 (110); yield strength σs (MPa): ≥930 (95); Elongation δ5 (%): ≥12; Reduction of area ψ (%): ≥45; Impact energy Akv (J): ≥63; Impact toughness value αkv (J/cm2): ≥78 (8); Hardness :≤217HB. In order to increase the mold life to more than 800,000 mold times, the pre-hardened steel can be quenched and tempered at low temperature. When quenching, first preheat at 500-600℃ for 2-4 hours, then keep it at 850-880℃ for a certain time (at least 2 hours), put it in oil and cool to 50-100℃, then put the oil in the air cool down. After quenching, the hardness can reach 50 -52HRC. To prevent cracking, low temperature tempering at 200°C should be performed immediately. The hardness can remain above 48HRC after tempering.

Regarding the delivery status of 42CrMo, it may vary due to different production standards and user needs. Generally speaking, it can be delivered in hot-rolled, forged, cold-drawn and other states. The specific state should be specified in the contract. The heat treatment status can include annealing, normalizing, quenching and tempering, etc. The specific status should also be specified in the contract according to the user's needs.

42CrMo steel is a low-alloy, high-strength structural steel with the following salient features.

High strength and toughness: 42CrMo steel can obtain high strength and toughness after proper heat treatment, such as quenching and tempering, resulting in good impact resistance and fatigue resistance. Its tensile strength can reach more than 1000MPa, and its yield point can also reach more than 800MPa.

Good hardenability: The chromium and molybdenum elements in the steel can improve the hardenability of the steel, causing it to deform less during quenching and obtain a deeper hardened layer.

No obvious temper brittleness: At an appropriate tempering temperature, 42CrMo steel is not prone to temper brittleness, which is beneficial to maintaining the stability of its mechanical properties.

Good low-temperature impact toughness: In low-temperature environments, 42CrMo steel can still maintain good impact toughness, which is of great significance for equipment working in cold areas or low-temperature conditions.

Good wear resistance and corrosion resistance: This steel type also has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and can meet the use requirements under some special working conditions.
