Japan's Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Stainless Steel Starts 31 October
Japan will impose a five-year anti-dumping duty on nickel-containing cold-rolled stainless steel flat products from China, effective 31 October 2026 through 30 October 2031. The definitive rates differ by exporter: 27.7% for Shanxi Taigang, 42.1% for POSCO Zhangjiagang and other suppliers, 20.1% for Walsin Lihwa, and 3.6% for Yieh United.

For buyers of stainless steel plate cutting parts, the duty changes the arithmetic on Japan-bound orders. Material from the named Chinese mills now carries a double-digit duty at import, which can outweigh the cutting cost advantage of sourcing profiles from China in the first place.

Three checks keep the landed cost under control. First, identify the producing mill behind your cutting order, because the duty follows the mill, not the trader. Second, ask for the mill certificate at the quotation stage so the applicable rate is known before you commit. Third, where the rate is high, compare the quote against stainless produced elsewhere to see which route lands cheaper after duty.

Lead times may also stretch as Japanese buyers bring orders forward ahead of the effective date, so placing first-quarter requirements early is the safer play.

We supply 304 and 316 stainless steel plate cutting parts with full mill certificates, and we quote both routes so you can compare the landed cost before ordering.
